Co-Sleeping And Twins Seriously What’s The Problem

April 19, 2018

Our twin girls are six years old and yes! Shock horror they still find their way into our bed most nights of the week, does it bother me well quite honestly not a lot. This is my reasons why?

Nothing in this world can prepare you for having twin babies, two demanding babies who each want feeding, a nappy change and want a nap, and this is usually happening at the same time. It’s a 24/7 job that gives you basically no rest for the first 18 months.

So it would be no surprise that eventually you give in and make decisions that yes you may regret, but you need to sleep as well.

I so often read articles that say you shouldn’t co-sleep with your children when they are little, you will live to regret, of course what they neglect to say is that are walking around like one of the zombies from the walking dead sleep deprived and just simply desperate for just five minutes of uninterrupted sleep. There is so much pressure on parents nowadays to do it this way or that way, and quite honestly there is no need, I’m a great believer of doing it your way and following your own instincts which invariably will be right.

You cave in it’s 3am and you can longer keep your eyes open, you need sleep and at that moment you cuddle your baby in your bed because they will fall asleep feeling secure in your arms. I know! It’s the start of a rocky road, but it’s so much hard work having twins that don’t sleep, won’t sleep, don’t believe in sleep at night time when the rest of world sleep you are wide awake tending to two babies.

Fast forward and the girls are now six years old and every night one of them will find her way to our bed, which is usually M in fairness R does actually stay in her bed more often than not.

I’m I bothered that the girls at six years of age still co-sleep to some extent with us, I’m not in the slightest bit bothered, but that could be down to the fact that it has being going on so long now that I’m conditioned to it.

There will come a time which if I’m honest will happen very soon when the girls will just start sleeping all night in their own beds. The thing is I can’t be bothered with the aggravation of pushing it because I want a full nights sleep like the rest of the world. So don’t judge us for co-sleeping with our little ones, having twins is tough, and Believe me you will do anything for a sleep.

Here is a very informative guide to co-sleeping from CosySleep

Do you or have you co-slept with your children, I would love to hear.

I’ve co-slept with both girls on rough nights. It never led to being a regular thing (Yay, I love my bed & sleep!) but it does happen with both girls at times. Izzy will sometimes wake & just wants me to climb into her bed & cuddle her until she drifts off, Eva more often than not prefers the sofa so we will snuggle up on there too. They are only little once, it’s rare you hear of adults climbing into bed with their parents so I don’t see why people worry so much!
