Crafting The Garden Refuge You And Your Family Deserve

As DIY Dads, it’s tempting to improve our houses in any way we can deem appropriate. DIY is addictive once you become well versed in it, and it’s hard to not lend that creative eye to every avenue of the home space you have. You might have purchased a new home, and can see that the last tenant had a tenuous grip on what ‘DIY’ meant to say the least. 

This is often most apparent in the outdoor space, as people often neglect their gardens in favor of their indoor comfort. This does make sense to a degree because the latter end of spring and the whole of summer are largely the only two appropriate season times that allow us to unwind, relax and appreciate our outdoor green space fully.

However, there is so much untapped potential in any garden that it can feel a shame to let it go to waste. Plus, as a prospective home-improver, tackling your garden could be your most satisfying and length challenge yet. Having an awesome home space is fantastic, but having a truly beautiful garden space can be even more satisfying.

But what garden improvements should you implement? Well, there are many that can help you regarding aesthetics, home safety, and utility.

A Pond. 

Ponds are usually the ‘piece de resistance’ of a great garden and can serve as the primary fixture. No matter what you intend to do with this pond; house ducks, fill it with fish that adhere to the correct water temperature and PH, or simply just have it blank and decorated with water fixtures, having a great pond is a careful balance between design and maintenance. The design is the difficult part. How would you like it to appear? How will you ensure its safety, especially if you have dogs, small children or other considerations that could make it a potential danger?

Maintenance is the easy part. Installing pumps, pond liners, and filtration systems will allow your water to stay cleaner for longer, and prevent the build up of the aptly named ‘gunk.’ A well-maintained pool is an exercise in discipline and DIY craft but pulled off well, it can make your garden look simply incredible.

Secure Fencing.

It’s important that as a father you take any means necessary to protect your property. An open garden does the opposite of that. Install secure fencing around the perimeter of your property, and decorate or paint it as you feel would work with the standard exterior of your property. Be sure to install solid locks that are difficult to break through, and use anti-climb paint or similar anti-intruder spikes that prevent unwanted people from getting in. This can also help your home look more ‘fortified,’ and thus exponentially increase its property value for when you come to sell it.

Tool Housing. 

As a DIY dad, it’s likely that you’ve built up quite the collection of tools at this point. Unfortunately, DIY tools and children do not fit well together. Once they get to a certain age, children become endlessly fascinated with accidentally injuring themselves, so it’s important to have a secure separate area to house your most dangerous items that a child couldn’t access. This will also prevent your tools from being stolen by the unscrupulous sort, and help keep them safe from weather or damp erosion.

These garden installations will improve your garden tenfold in beauty and practicality and will be challenging enough to implement that your DIY nature will be satiated for some time to come.
