Date Night

June 11, 2016

Our twins girls are now just over four years old and I can count on one hand how many times we have been out together as a couple, and amazing as it seems we haven’t been out for an evening once.

Unfortunately our network of family as babysitters is non-existent, so the opportunity to have a night out simply isn’t there.

So when I see on social media that couples are going out on a date night, do I get jealous? Yes, of course I do, although I’m not sure I would call it a date night for us. Why? Well we are married and I see it as a night out with the one person I love more than anybody else in the world, not exactly dating.
So do I miss it? Of course I do. Going to the cinema on a whim, going for Sunday lunch because we can’t be bothered to cook and coming home, laying on the sofa, watching a crap film and going to sleep.
So would I change my life? No, I wouldn’t. I don’t think as some people do that’s it’s important to have this couple time. If it suits them and it’s what they want I would never criticise them. Each to their own. I believe we are a family first and foremost and when you are family the dynamics of your life change, your priorities change and you are now a parent.

As a parent your responsibility changes. They are first after all you decided to have children and it’s your job to look after your children.

So going out on whim it’s simply in my mind not an option. I don’t think it’s going to change anytime soon because we don’t have any babysitters.
But, strangely I don’t miss it. I love doing things as a family.
