Exterior painting of bungalow in two colours
Just recently I was employed to paint the exterior of a bungalow which is part brick and part pebble-dash using two different colours.
The trick was to use colours that complemented each other.
The first part of the job was to prepare all of the surfaces for painting which involved removing any loose paint and filling any cracks or holes with flexible filler.
Now the painting can begin. The first area to paint is the brickwork. I used Homebase Weathercoat Masonry Paint in Terracotta to do all of the brickwork. I applied two coats and used 7.5 litres of paint.
The next area to paint was all of the walls. I used Dulux Weathershield Masonry Paint in classic cream. Again I applied two coats and this took 15 litres of paint.
The front door was a wooden door which I feel adds character to the property. I painted this in Dulux Weathershield Exterior Gloss in classic cream. First I applied a light colour undercoat followed by two coats of gloss. I used the same method to paint the garage door. This took about two litres of gloss.
The next step was all of the sofits and facias. I applied a dark grey undercoat and then two coats of Dulux Weathershield Exterior Gloss in black. This took two litres of gloss.
Finally the rear gate to the property. I stained it in Sadolin Extra Durable Stain and applied two coats in Jacobean Walnut. This took one litre of stain.
Although I had my doubts about using two colours which were completely different I believe the overall effect is fantastic. Both colours complement each other beautifully.
