Summer has arrived and for us that means it’s time to get the barbecue out, gather round family and friends and let the good times roll!
I think there’s no better way to bring the whole family together than a good, traditional barbecue.
Did you know that the UK is Europe’s leading BBQ nation, hosting over 130 million BBQ’s in 2016? Over the past couple of weeks we’ve already had two barbecues, so this will be our third this year and I’m sure we’ll have many more to come!
Thankfully, Iceland are close by to give us a helping hand and they very kindly asked me to host a garden party barbecue. I jumped at the chance and headed to my local store to stock up!

I bought:
- Churrasco sausage skewers x 2
- Churrasco Moroccan lamb leg
- 6 peri peri chicken skewers
- 24 Barbecue selection pack
- 4 broccoli & cauliflower creamy gratins
- Grilled broccoli with pepper
- Chorizo potatoes
- Coleslaw, olives, potato salad, salad bag and cous cous
- Chocolate Gateau

I have to admit that I do enjoy shopping in Iceland. It’s really easy to find what you’re looking for as everything is clearly labelled, plus the staff are aways helpful and friendly. If you don’t have time to pop in-store, you can also shop online with them.
When I think of a barbecue the first thing that comes to mind is beef burgers, chicken and hot dogs. However, when I came across the Churrasco Moroccan lamb leg, I knew I had to try it. It’s not something that I would usually think to cook on a barbecue, but it looked really tasty and I was curious to see how it would turn out!
The Moroccan lamb leg is part of Iceland’s Churrasco range, as are the sausage skewers. They’re a great social product because they’re so easy share. They’re prepped on skewers for ease of cooking too which is another added bonus! I think it can be cooked on a grill or on an offset smoker. I have not tried it yet, but I think it will be delicious!
I think that one of the great things about Iceland’s frozen food is that it’s tasty, high quality, convenient and because it’s frozen, it retains more nutrients and vitamins than fresh food. As they say, that really is the #PowerOfFrozen!
As I was planning on inviting a fair few family members over, I wanted to make sure that there would be something for everyone. That’s why the 24 barbecue selection pack is a great choice. It contains chicken drumsticks, beef burgers and sausages. I also opted for some healthy choices such as the broccoli and cauliflower gratins, broccoli and red pepper, as well as the chorizo potatoes for a tasty side dish.
The pack of 6 peri peri chicken skewers won the best poultry product at the meat and fish awards 2016, so I knew that I had to try them as well!
With everything now bought, it was time to get cooking!
Everything was quick and easy to cook. As it’s frozen, you’ll need to follow the cooking instructions on the packaging. This means that they’ll need to be cooked in the oven first, but you can finish them off on the barbecue to get that tasty barbecue flavour.

After gathering the family round, it was time to lay the table and dig in!

I set out the cous cous, potato salad, coleslaw and olives in bowls next to one another, along with the salad. The chorizo potatoes were placed into an enamel dish and of course we also had a big bowl of salad for everyone to enjoy with their food.

The beef burgers used were from the 24 selection pack of barbecue food. I added some tomatoes and lettuce to add some extra flavour and texture. They were very tasty and went down well with everyone!

The Churrasco lamb leg was so full of flavour. Even my five year old twins who tend to just eat chicken, couldn’t get enough of the lamb. This surprised me as it is flavoured so quite spicy, but they loved it!
The sausage skewers also went down well with everyone, and the peri peri chicken skewers were heavenly. I wish I’d bought more!

My wife and daughter absolutely loved the broccoli and cauliflower creamy gratins. They were full of flavour, crispy and as per their name, very creamy!

To finish we treated ourselves to an Iceland Chocolate Gateau. It didn’t last very long as everyone went back for seconds!

I think it’s fair to say that everyone had a lovely time at our barbecue and the food was a big part of that. It was so convenient to just pop them out of the freezer, into the oven and then finish them off on the barbecue.
I love how quick and easy it was and I can’t wait to have another barbecue soon!
Here’s a short video of our barbecue.

Ah what a shame that the weather was against you, but that food looks incredible. I’m craving one those burgers now! 🙂 I love Iceland though, I always find it really reasonably priced as well which is always a bonus! Thanks so much for linking up to #TriumphantTales – hope to see you again on Tuesday!
