Getting Bored Of Family Nights In? Here’s How To Make Them Entertaining Again

December 1, 2020

Entertaining children can be a tough gig; they can get easily bored, or they can want to play the same game over and over again, and either way, you’re left huffing and puffing and wondering how you’re going to handle the next hour of play time. And with lockdown affecting all of us right now, these problems are getting more and more out of hand – what are you and the kids supposed to all do together in the living room? Well, we’ve got some interesting ideas for you below, so feel free to put them together for the purposes of keeping your kids engaged.

Make Something Novelty Together

Kids love to get stuck in, don’t they? So why not take the time to make something fun and novelty with them, such as salt dough they can build all kinds of things out of, or decorate bookmarks and cards together? Kids love to craft, by their very nature, and if you join in with them, you’ll create some wonderful memories here you’ll always cherish (even if you are stuck indoors and bored out of your minds otherwise!).

Play Games That Involve Characters

Character driven games are always going to be fun, simply because you’re putting yourself in someone else’s shoes, and that’s an idea kids tend to love. They get to be creative and weird with their choices, and if everyone else is getting involved, they feel encouraged, and the party could go on for hours!

One of the best character based games out there is a murder mystery game; of course, you might think the kids are bit young for something like this, but many of these types of games don’t have to involve real people or disturbing crimes. Indeed, one such variation of the game involves typical fantasy monsters like vampires and goblins, with the murder being replaced by a simple theft. Much more kid friendly!

Set Up an Indoor Gym

If your kids love to get outside, but they haven’t had the chance to go down the park or along to their clubs like they usually would, it’s time to indulge them a little. Sure, sitting down for a board game is a lot of fun the first three or four times, but the kids are going to start fidgeting after a while. They’re going to get bored very easily, and maybe even begin to dislike spending this time together.

So you need to let them use that energy. And to do that, you’re going to need to set up some kind of indoor gym or obstacle course. Even just grabbing the cushions off of the sofa and creating a makeshift fort for them to crawl in and out of could be a lot of fun, especially with their imaginations!

Family nights are lovely, simply because you all get together, but they can get a bit boring. Make sure you and the kids always have something to do with each other through each one.
