Getting a place at university

December 17, 2014

Update: So today I found out that my daughter has been offered a placement at Southampton University for child nursing course. The university is ranked the best in the country. This of course is all subject to grades. Well done!!!!

Today I was in Bristol at Bristol university with my 17 year old daughter as she is here for an interview to train for a degree in child  nursing.

My initial reaction was one of total amazement. There were about 60 young people and that is just today! All of them applying for a small, limited amount of spaces making it very difficult for young people today to secure their chosen university to study.

The university is an old mental asylum which has been converted into a training facility for nursing and I have to say it’s excellent.

We had a short tour of the university and was I very impressed with the latest equipment and how they had set up a fully working ward to give the best possible training.

All the applicants were looked after by year three students and they made us feel very comfortable and at ease with the university

I have to say nowadays that getting into the university you want is very competitive. It’s a lottery. So many of the applicants are good people, but some are just bound to fall though the net and I know the university’s try their hardest for this not happen.

So, I hope my daughter who I believe is more than capable of  doing child nursing gets a bit of luck and gets an offer for placement.

I am not politically motivated, but we must as a country invest whatever it takes and by that I mean no limit on funds in education and national health service because all these young people are our future,

Just an afterthought here; my daughter has applied in her home town university for the same course and I would really would like her to get a place there so she doesn’t move to far from home.

Good luck to your daughter, it's lovely you want her near but even if she gets into Bristol, there are so many holidays, you'll see her lots. Thanks for linking up to #brilliantblogposts
