How to achieve the perfect painted finish on wood
When you’re painting wood, whether it be doors, skirting boards or window frames the key to a smooth finish is preparation. It’s worth spending a little time making sure the surfaces are perfect for painting.
Here’s how:
1. The first job to do is to wash all areas in a sugar soap solution to remove all grime and grease
2. After the surface is dry, remove all loose paint and sand down with a medium sandpaper to remove any runs or imperfections
3. Next step is to undercoat all woodwork. This is so that when you paint the final coat the undercoat will give a good surface for your final coat to be applied to evenly
4. Finally your top coat. Now this can be applied in different finishes depending on your personal choice. Available finishes you can chose from are full gloss, satinwood or eggshell. When applying the final coat make sure you use long even strokes. This will avoid any brush strokes showing especially on doors.
5. Remember there are four steps! Clean, sand, undercoat and apply the final coat. This will ensure that you get a perfect finish every time.
