Is School Changing My Twins.
My four year old twins have now been back in school two weeks. Since their half term break it has been a fascinating few weeks because there is a change happening that I didn’t expect.

The girls confidence is growing at an alarming rate. No longer do they stay holding hands with mummy and daddy being very shy and this was particularly obvious at a couple of parties they have been to in the last couple of weeks.
The twins have been invited to what I consider an incredible amount of their classmates birthday parties which actually staggers me because when I ask who are your friends? Who are your friends? I get a wall of silence and then they say well nobody dad. So how do they get invited to so many parties?
The first of two parties was at a place called funtastic which is a soft play centre with climbing frames and slides etc. Within seconds of arriving the girls were gone and I didn’t see them unless they wanted a drink and then they were gone again with a byeee… daaaaad..! There was a time when I would have to climb on the frames with them. Now I think I have been made redundant!
They came back for food eventually, but it was fascinating watching them play and look out for each other.
There was one downside which very nearly caused me to have a rant. The parents whose childs party it was spoke to me and asked me who was who with the girls and one of them then said one likes boys toys? My reply was short and to the point.
I don’t believe there is such a thing as certain toys are for boys and girls. I didn’t receive a reply, but a sheepish look and the conservation ended instantly.

The second party was just last week on a Saturday lunchtime. It was a social club and a children’s entertainer called Simon Sparkles was there. Normally the twins never get involved in such shows, but after a mimiumal amount of encouragement the girls were sitting down in a circle playing the games with all the children and this was a massive revelation to me and when the entertainer did his magic comedy show after food, the girls sat down with all the other kids and were completely involved.
Watching your children develop as they progress through school is a very bittersweet moment. Their independence grows with every day that passes.
I’m not really sure why they get so many invites to classmates birthday parties, but it’s flattering and I suppose it also means they have formed good relationships with friends and popular with their classmates.
Although, expensive for mummy and daddy with all these presents!
