Making Your Bathroom Feel More Child-Friendly
The bathroom can be a difficult room for a child to get to grips with. Everything is a little too high up for them, it’s easy to slip on the wet floor, and even as adults we can struggle to remember to brush our teeth! As such, it’s a good idea to make the bathroom more of a child friendly place – but what does that involve? Check out the points below for some ideas on making the bathroom a bit more fun and safe for kids, and a little more tidy for you.
Mount a Toy Box Over the Bath
Not a big toy box like the ones they have in their bedrooms. A little one, that’s just big enough to fit their bathtime toys in. If a rubber duck and other floaty devices can be crammed in, and the lid can be shut, it’s a perfect fit! Then get some command hooks and hang the whole thing up over the bath or next to the shower. If the kids can access their favourite bathtime additions whenever they want them, they’ll be less likely to put up a fuss about going in for a wash!
Use Stickers to Make Fun Wall Patterns
Bathroom walls tend to be tiled over up until waist height, and then the paint or wallpaper is nautical or pastel themed up to the ceiling. But if you’ve got young kids, why not get some big wall stickers or stencils and some spray paint and make some fun patterns? Something fun and cute the kids will enjoy, that you can point out and make them laugh with. Kids love to see characters and colours they love around them, so it won’t be hard to surprise them here!
Give Them Their Own ‘Areas’
If each of the kids have their own spaces to put their toothbrush, soap, and towels, they’re going to grow up knowing how to take care of a wet room like the bathroom. Make it a routine after every shower or before bedtime; they brush their teeth and put it back, then wash their hands and faces and hang on the towel on their own, personalised hook, etc. Make it feel like they’ve got a part of the room that’s their own (and that’s their job to look after) and they won’t have any trouble using it!
Do Your Routine Together
Finally, to help encourage your kids to follow their nighttime bathroom routine, why not do it together? If they’re too old to need help in the bath anymore, you can still brush your teeth together, or apply skin creams whilst they’re washing up before bed. Share the space with them, make funny faces in the mirror together, splash each other with bubbles, and simply show them the bathroom doesn’t have to be boring or a chore to get through.
To make a child-friendly bathroom, think from your kids’ perspective. Make it colourful and fun, and then hand out some responsibility.
