My Daughter E Returns to University for her 2nd Year

September 5, 2016

Last Saturday I was up at 6am to take my daughter back to university to study for her second year.

It was a very interesting start because I wasn’t entirely sure where she was staying, but she did text me an address of a friend where she said would most likely be staying overnight after a night out on the town partying.

Thankfully I had all her stuff packed in the car from the day before so at least that bit was sorted. The only text I had from her was at 3am in the morning!

As you can see no mention of where she was going to stay and our arranged time for pick up was 6am. I had texted her numerous times without reply and phoned her 24 times, yes 24 times! And yes you guessed it, no reply!
So I decided to take a risk and go to her friends address, but I was not feeling very confident she would be there, and I will admit I was slowly getting a bit agitated.
I turned up at the house and after ringing the doorbell a few times somebody finally answered and I explained who I was and that I was looking for my daughter to give her a lift back to university.
Thankfully she was there. After about 10 minutes she surfaced and was without a doubt still quite drunk. She got changed quickly and we were on our way at about 6.30am. Her friend just walked passed the front door and said hi, very randomly, but I was polite and said hi back.
On these journeys I always look forward to long chats with my children as I was this day, but I also wanted to chat about the fact that now she was entering her second year at university there was certain things that I felt she needed to change because she had certaintly done her fair share of partying in the first year which possibly needed to slow down a little, but I understand the first year is when you let your hair down and possibly have wild times. No, actually you do have wild nights and parties. It’s student life
The chat didn’t happen! Why? She slept all the way back in a very intoxicated state. The whole conservation was can you take some pictures of the Severn bridge, turn my sat nav on please, we are here and the only reply was that it was a really quick journey. Actually I felt a little bit drunk from her breathing alcohol fumes all over me!

So my lovely daughter E, here is the advice I wanted to give you on our car journey.
1. You need to manage your money more carefully! (So not going happen, lol! )
2. You definitly need to slow down the partying.
3. You need to knuckle down and start achieving the absolute best grades you can, which I know you can.
4. You need to continue maturing and taking things in your stride and let things go over your head.
5. I would like to think you will look after yourself and eat properly and healthily.
6. Always stay safe and don’t put yourself in dodgy situations.
E enjoy the university experiamce as it will go so very quickly and I know that your next placement is on a neo-natal ward and having spent four weeks on a neo-natal ward with your twin sisters, I am sure you are in for an emotional rollercoaster, but I know you will be fine and are more than capable of dealing with it.
So that was my trip taking my daughter back to university. She rang me later to say thanks for the lift and said that the her friend that said hi to me by the front door had snapchatted her to say Hey E! Great to meet your dad at 6.30am!
Love you lots E. Make yourself proud!
