My Four Year Old Twin Girl, R, Always Puts A Smile On My Face

In just over five weeks time my twin girls will be five years old, and they are now in their second full term in primary school.

I feel they have grown up so much since Christmas and their observational skills and memory are developing into very powerful tools. Ultimately our children mimic what we do and how we do it, but they also mimic what their older siblings do and on occasions dress that way too.

A few days ago R pointed out to me that there was a hole in her jeans, and in fact she was in the process of making it bigger. I asked to her leave it is, and said that mummy will be able to sew it up on her sewing machine later. This nearly caused a melt-down and R started pleading, ‘no, no’! So after a while I said ok, no worries, but curiosity was getting the better of me and I had to ask why.

Her reply didn’t shock me, but it made me realise how quickly children grow and noticed what others are doing.

R’s reply was that her older sister, J, who is 21 years old I might add, always wears jeans that are torn, although I imagine they cost a fortune from an expensive high street store! R said that she wanted to be like her older sister. I guess she also wanted her own designer jeans. 

Another moment of pure magic was last weekend. R said she wanted to write a letter to a friend in her class who just happened to be one of the boys. She said she wanted to write the letter because she didn’t want him to forget her when they are teenagers. I found this incredibly sweet.

On Monday R gave him the letter and when I picked them up I asked her what did he say. R said he said that he would write a letter for her. I asked R how do you know he will? Quick as a flash she said, because I told him he had to! Haha! This really made me laugh and I thought ok, we know who is in charge there!

It’s fascinating watching them grow and develop and how they are now observing and the power of their memory gets stronger by the the day.
