Old people say it as it is!
Today is my Mum’s birthday and how age has changed her.
One of the most amazing things about old age is the lack of inhibitions that as you get. It appears that the older you are, you have no problem saying it as it is!
My mum is in her eighty’s and there is no doubt that the older she has got she has no qualms about saying what’s on her mind. She will tell me in full detail exactly what is wrong with her and I mean no holds barred detail!
She suffers from a number of conditions one of which is diverticulitis. To those that don’t know this is a condition of the bowel and yes it is very unpleasant and difficult to deal with. When she is having an attack of it, it can last a few days, but it’s not life threatening. However when such an attack happens I have a full report of everything and I mean everything!
Recently though she even shocked me and I’m not easily shocked that’s for sure.
She had the doctor out on a housecall and afterwards she phoned me to tell me that the doctor said she had thrush. She then went on to say, and I quote, “It’s to do with the vagina.”
Ok mum! I know what thrush! Too much information!
All this got me to thinking. Is she that different to my four year twins because they have no inhibitions and don’t always realise or think what they say or do.
So as we get older, do we actually become more like children again with no thought of the consequences of our actions or what we say?
