Parents: Simple Ways to Reduce Stress in Your Daily Life
None of us enjoy stress but it’s something we all have to deal with from time to time, and is part of the human experience. We tend to think of stress as big things- exams, driving tests, family dramas and illnesses- but actually, for most of us these big events tend to be few and far between (thankfully!) Most of the stresses that we face are more likely to be daily hassles and niggles which can all add up, and the good thing about this is they’re easily resolved with a bit of planning. Here are some examples.
Write to- do lists for each day
As parents, we have so many plates that we need to keep spinning. Along with work and childcare we need to attend various appointments, keep the house running, cook, run errands, try to socialise and much more. It can feel overwhelming, however if you spend some time planning you can organise your time much more efficiently. Each day, write a to-do list for the day ahead. Work out exactly what you need to get don, then you can plan things out effectively and in order to make the best use of your time.
Do what you can the night before
Once you have your to-do list for the day ahead, work out what you can do the night before. If you have a busy day with an early start, making sure all family members have had baths, their lunches are prepared and all clothes are laid out for example will save you precious minutes in the morning. Is there anything you need to put in the car, or a bag that needs to be made up so you can be sure you have everything you need without rushing around?
Upgrade your car
Speaking of your car, upgrading could be one way to make your life a little easier. If it’s currently small and cramped, a larger model with more space and room in the boot for things like groceries, kids bikes and more could be a smart move. Look at used 4×4 cars for sale if it’s something bigger you need. If your car is currently unreliable, purchasing something a little newer can prevent a lot of disappointment and stress when you can’t get to where you’re going due to car issues. It might seem like a luxury purchase if you already have a working model, however if a better car will save you money where you’re not having to get it repaired as often then it can be a good investment.
Get your home organised
Knowing where things are when you need them can be absolutely invaluable. It sounds simple, but how many times have you turned the house upside down looking for something you need, or running around like a headless chicken trying to retrieve something important. Put some storage systems in place and get used to using them- have a hook for keys, a filing system to paperwork and important documents, somewhere to take off and hang coats, hats, shoes and umbrellas. It will make things much easier when you then need to find these things!
