Christmas is over and my four year old twin girls have gone back to school for their second full term in their first year of their school life in the last few days.

There has been so many changes through the Christmas holidays. The biggest change I have seen in both the girls was strange. We have in just a few months gone from tears and upset at the thought of school which of course is heartbreaking to watch, to being asked how many more days before we go back to school. This is something I never thought I would hear!
R and M’s confidence and general behaviour is so different. There are far fewer melt-downs over the little things and a lot less moaning about each other. They are playing together and making up their own games which I have been so keen to see for a while and when you are in the other room and listening to them playing and talking to each other it’s a joy to hear.

Over the Christmas period R in particular has really changed. I wrote a post just before Christmas about co-sleeping with your children. I’m quite convinced she read it even though she can’t read that well yet, because literally as soon as I published it R started sleeping all night in her own bed! M on the other hand, well she is probably not as secure in herself during the night and is still waking and coming into our bed.
Both of the girls have also tried to be nappy free through the night and again R has succeeded in doing this, it has been about 10 nights so I think we have a little girl who is growing up. M has managed a couple of nights, but she still is a little bit behind her sister, but will do it in her own time.
R has also now started to brush her own hair and wash her own hair in the shower. She really is becoming Miss independent, but what a pleasure watching her grow up and I’m sure M wont be long before she catches her twin sister up.
I’m sure my wife and of course myself would like to take all the credit for these milestones being achieved, but that would be completly wrong. My 19 year old daughter, E, was home from university over christmas and she was talking to the girls about both sleeping all night and being nappy free through the night. I have no idea what her secret was but OMG! It worked a treat R in particular couldn’t wait to tell her sister the following day of her achievements during the night.
The innonence of your children goes so quickly once they are in school full-time. I’m not sure if that is down mixing and hearing more from older children.

The next six months is going to be fascinating to watch as the twins complete their first year in school. They will be five years old in February and it’s frightening how quickly time goes. One of the big things for me is we are starting to have completly almost at times grown up conversations with the girls.
Their confidence and their ability to socialise is only going to get better during this year.
Would love to know how your children are changing as they get older.

It’s amazing to watch isn’t it! Our girls changed massively when starting high school, not always in a positive light, in regards attitude… But mainly, much more confident.
Our boy is Home Educated but despite the cliche about their ability to socialise, which is utter nonsense, he too is flourishing before our eyes. He’s 8 months behind your girls so very similar, it’s the greatest gift of all watching them develop and grow!

It’s amazing to see how much my boys have grown up since they started school. They turned 5 in November so are slightly older than your girls. They are so much more independent and always happy to be left at school which is a bonus for me as I saw many upset children at the start of last term. Today was the first day back so hoping we get back into routine quickly 🙂
