Summer is coming
It’s the middle of March and here in South Wales the sun has been shining for about six days. The nights are drawing out and it’s really looking like summer is coming.
But wait! It’s the UK! It will be snowing next week I’m sure!
The sunshine, for all of that, has got me thinking if we make the most of our limited summers in this country.
We as a family have many plans for the summer. Already my wife has been out in the greenhouse with our twin daughters planting vegetable seeds and the girls love the involvement of planting and watching them all grow.
This year I plan to have more barbecues as there is nothing nicer on a summers evening than sitting outside with the smell of food cooking on the barbecue.
I also want to take advantage of sunny days and visit the beaches near us on a much more regular basis. The girls just love the beach and we need to make a bigger effort to get to the beach.
I have never done bike rides, but maybe this year I need to buy a bike and we can all go on a bike ride. I often see families doing it and think I have to do that because it looks loads of fun.
Most of all I feel the need to be more spontaneous and just get out and visit places while the summer is here. It’s so easy to allow it to pass by and it will be winter again before we know it.

I can't wait to have barbecues again. it seemed like we had no summer at all in northumberland last year

They all sound like great ideas!! And you are right, our summers can be so short, that we do need to make the most of every sunny day!! We are making more plans for this summer than we have done before, because we've been so restricted by immobile children and naps, that a lot of things have been out of the question. But this year we are planning cycle rides, and having friends over for bbqs, and generally being more social again! I will look forward to hearing about your summer adventures!

spontaneity is a great idea, but somehow it never works in my life, instead time gets filled up with everyone else's things and we never get to do our dreams. This year we're scheduling time for the things we love, making time for the spontaneity perhaps 🙂
