What’s your favourite colour?
It’s funny how different colours can make you feel differently about the environment you’re in. As a painter and decorator I’ve been in a lot of peoples homes and I always find it interesting to see how others decorate their homes. Some people, well, the majority of people go for pretty simple, every day colours. Others though opt to be a bit bolder and braver by choosing bright colours, feature walls with colourful, patterned wallpaper and sometimes colours that I wouldn’t even have thought would go together well, until I actually see the finished result.
For me though I tend to stick to the simple, every day colours with a slight splash of colour. My favourite colour though has to be purple. It doesn’t matter what shade of purple it is, I love it. The lavenders and lighter shades of purple can be quite relaxing, soothing almost. The kind of colours you might find in a bathroom or perhaps a bedroom.
When it comes to the darker shades such as plum and violet, I think these work well in a living room or office. I have purple in my living room, but also in my bedroom. It’s quite subtle in our living room and it’s mixed in with shades of grey. Our sofas, chosen by my wife, are grey, but they have colourful buttons running along the back. On the sofas we have a mix of various sized purple and grey cushions. I really like the mix of the simple grey colour teamed up with the vibrant, bold purple. It transforms the room into something a bit more interesting than if it was just left grey.
In my bedroom, we have a deep purple throw over our bed along with some purple and grey cushions. This is teamed up purple curtains. I think the room looks quite inviting and also find that the simple layout and design is quite relaxing.
Calibre furniture is a company that uses a great deal of colour in their range. They’ve created an infographic entitled ‘Colour psychology explored’ and I think it makes for some quite interesting reading. What’s your favourite colour?
