Take the #TyreChallenge

September 28, 2018

I’ve been driving for over 30 years, and in that time, you would think that I would know a fair bit about driving. Especially when you consider that I also used to work in a garage!

However, I recently took the Kwik Fit #TyreChallenge, which is an online quiz, and I was really surprised by my lack of tyre knowledge. Out of 10 questions, I got just 3 correct answers.

I drive my car every day. To work, to the children’s school, to the shops etc, and I’ve even driven long distances from my home in Cardiff to the likes of London, Manchester, Southhampton and Pemrbrokeshire.

Before each and every journey, I always get my car cleaned, and I always give it a once over. This includes checking the tyres, oil, water, lights, brakes etc, and of course that I have enough petrol. However, it appears that I may not be as up to speed on my tyre knowledge as I’d have thought.

The Kwik Fit Tyre Challenge quiz says that it’s important to check the condition of your tyres to prevent accidents to you and others arounds you, and I couldn’t agree more. Nowadays it’s so easy to check your own tyres, or simply take them somewhere to be checked, and if you do need new tyres you can now buy tyres online.

I was recently involved in a car accident. I was driving my daughter home from Southampton University back to Cardiff, when all of a sudden the traffic on the motorway slowed down and the car behind us went straight into the back of us. Luckily no-one was seriously injured, and the accident was caused by the drivers lack of awareness, but it does highlight to me how we should all be checking our cars to make sure that they’re safe.

Yes, we have an MOT once a year, but after that, your car can still become unroadworthy, and the last thing you’ll want to happen is to cause an accident because you haven’t looked after your car properly.
