Teaching Our Little Ones How To Be healthy
The importance of teaching our little ones to be healthy is so important I believe, and this cannot be started soon enough. Doing regular exercise and eating healthy foods are something we pass on to our children. Hopefully this will keep them fit and healthy all their lives.
My three older children all loved sport while they were growing up. All three of them played football for their local team. Although only the one has continued to play football which is my 20 year old daughter, and she continues to play nowadays for her university team, she is also a regular gym user and is very particular about her diet.
My eldest daughter uses the gym three or four times a week and does her best to keep in shape.
My five year old twins are just starting out in taking part in sport. They have recently signed up to football at an after school club.
The sessions involve a lot of games which is great to get kids to enjoy themselves, and keep the competitive edge out until they are a bit older. I truly believe it’s so important that they enjoy sport so it carries on throughout their childhood. The competitive part of sport can be introduced when they are more able to understand that certain ball sports involve contact and other people can take the ball off you and you have to win it back.
My wife is a regular runner and has completed many 10k runs and also a half marathon. The twins have watched her collect medal after medal. This has motivated them to start running and they completed two 1.5k runs and collected a medal for their efforts. Their mum is definitely showing the way to a healthy lifestyle.
My twin girls have packed lunches for school and both of them insist on having fruit in their lunch bags and normally a piece of fruit for their morning break. We have always given them fruit from when they were being weaned. They also devour a Sunday dinner with all the vegetables on their plates. They are definitely children that like good food. Yes, of course they have a treat of a McDonald’s every now and again, but I don’t think that will harm them.
My five year old twins will hopefully go on to a healthy lifestyle, but I firmly believe this should be taught early in their lives.
I would love to know what you think.
