The Family Bed No Wait A Minute It’s The Wife’s And Mine

October 25, 2018

Where oh where did I sign a contract all those years ago that said I would accept our nearly seven year old twin girls crawling into our bed in the middle of the night, and I seriously mean, every night! Not one night will pass by where we do not wake up in the morning and there is four of us in our bed. Well I cannot find said contract and I’m just wondering a little bit now what age they will actually both stay in their beds all night. Oh yes! It would be lovely not to be cramped in a small space in the middle of the bed, or every time I turn the girls turn and I get a hand across the face or a blow to the ribs from a wayward foot!

When will be the next time I get a night of unbroken sleep for 8 hours without a child coughing or snoring? Yes both of the girls snore like you wouldn’t believe. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that six year old girls could snore so loudly! I thought that was something only I had mastered, haha! I know it’s hard to believe, but yes I have been known to snore, although I never hear it myself, I’m fast asleep!

Co-sleeping when you have twin baby girls is actually the only way to go. I remember the feeling of total exhaustion and I would have done anything for just a couple of hours of sleep, which included bringing the girls into bed at nighttime with us because that’s the way it is. You will do anything for some shut-eye.

Now I guess we are paying the price of those days of cuddling them in bed because we were desperate for sleep. Just as well we invested in a super kingsize bed.

I will say, I don’t regret for one minute co-sleeping with our twin girls, because had we not, the sleep deprivation would have been almost impossible to bear. It’s an absolute killer sleep deprivation, ask any twin parent and they will tell you those first couple of years are incredibly hard. I dread to think what it would be like with triplets. Actually I don’t want to think about it too much, it will give me brain ache.

So here we are nearly seven years later and we have what I would affectionately call a family bed. Co-sleeping with your children when they are babies seems like a great solution to get some sleep, but the time has come where they really need to stay in their own beds all night. How that is going to be achieved, if I’m honest I haven’t got a clue! I think I’ve been going along blindly thinking it would happen naturally and the girls would start sleeping in their own beds all night, my goodness how naive was that!

I would actually love to hear your thoughts and opinions. Please help me! Even though we have a super king size bed it’s getting smaller by the day!

Wish I could offer some advice but we have the same problem! It’s mainly just with youngest getting in with us in the middle of the night, but her brothers get in most mornings too. I don’t mind admitting that I’m sick of it!
