The fantastic relationship our twins are developing
Just recently as I have written, M had to have an operation at our local children’s hospital.
I noticed something properly for the very first time. I was always aware of, but it stood out now more than ever before and that’s the closeness and bond my twin girls have developed for one another.
When they go into nursery they always hold hands to walk through the door which is obviously incredibly cute, but as parents it’s reassuring that they are looking out for each other. That no matter what happens they are there for each other.
On the day M was in hospital I was on my own with her for the morning and about lunchtime my wife and R came into the hospital. We happened to be in line with the entry door when they walked up and R saw us. She was laughing, smiling and waving and without a doubt had missed her sister. It was the happiest face I think I have ever seen! At that moment I realised the bond between our twin girls was strong and very solid.
They may argue and occasionally fight, but there’s no doubt in my mind how much they love and care about each other at just age four.
The following day they were having a bath and M’s hand was wrapped in cling film to keep it dry and R asked does it hurt? M replied no and said you can touch it if you want, so she did and M said see it doesn’t hurt. M at this point hadn’t really allowed anybody to touch her hand, but she totally trusted her sister to touch it. That’s a trust I think only twins could have.
The twins are developing a relationship that I feel a little jealous of. To be a twin must be wonderful to grow up and share your life with somebody that’s exactly the same age as you. R was sat next to M keeping a watchful eye as M came around from her anaesthetic.
Being the dad of twins I will be honest at times was very tough when they were babies especially premature babies, but as they grow up its turning into a magical experience, one that that I am so glad to be part of.
In the middle of winter when the weather is terrible or in the summer in your back garden you will always have a friend to play with and more importantly it’s your twin sister. How special is that.
