To Be 5 Years Old And Just simply Believe!

November 16, 2017

To be five years old like my twins must be wonderful. The innocence of a child is still there, none of the harsh realities of life have in any way clouded their thoughts. Life is actually very easy. You get to be a kid and you believe in all the magical, wonderful, completely mythical ideas in the world, but hey ho, that’s ok. You are only five, plenty of time for growing up.

My twin girls are five years old and we have visited Father Christmas at West Midland Safari Park (you can read my full review here), and it’s not even half way through November. R and M believe Santa is real, he brings all their presents on Christmas Eve and I for one will not be about to burst their bubble. Why would I? Life is difficult enough at times when you get older and you want them to believe in these traditions for as long as possible. For me it’s what being a kid is all about.

We currently have elf doors stuck to the bedroom walls. It seems crazy, but I genuinely think the girls think the elves left them a chocolate Santa lolly there today while they were at school. Of course it was mum, but even if really deep down they know it was their mum, I for one don’t care. Seeing their little faces light up and thinking the fairies left chocolate while at school. Who could ask for more? Pure magic.

One moment this year that will forever stay in my memories and also my heart is when we went on holiday to Disneyland Paris. Never really understanding or even possibly caring what the magic of Disney meant. I was to become a convert in the space of just a few hours of arriving at our hotel.

The moment that defined the holiday for me was when my five year old twin girls met Peter Pan and Wendy. R was dressed as Peter Pan and M was dressed as Tinkerbelle. When it was their turn to meet them, it brought tears to my eyes. Their little faces were just so magical, totally believing that this was Peter Pan and Wendy. It was a moment in life to treasure forever.

It must be kind of cool to be five years old. If only I could remember the innocence and magic of believing in Santa, Disney or elves that bring you lovely surprises in the middle of the night.

Children today grow up so very quickly in the fast moving technological world that is 2017. I believe the longer they can hang onto childhood innocence the better. It’s beautiful to watch them just believing in the myths, because before we know it they will be telling us it’s not true it’s all make believe.

I know we have at least one more Christmas where the twins will believe in Santa and he will be delivering their presents on Christmas Eve, but it wouldn’t surprise me if this is last one. OMG! I hope not.

I would love to hear your thoughts.
