Looks Like Camping Is On The Agenda This Summer

April 7, 2018

Over the last 12 months, my six year old twin girls have mentioned on a regular basis that they would love to go camping during the summer months. The influence has definitely come from a few of their school friends who go camping on a regular basis.

We only have one problem though. We don’t own a tent, or for that matter have any idea which tent to buy so it’s perfect for a week away in the wilds of the welsh countryside for a family of four.

As a child I never went on a camping trip. I guess some people might say I have missed out, but I would probably beg to differ because camping is really not my thing. I would much prefer a hotel, but for all of that I’m game to try anything.

So as I said when my six year old twin girls asked to go camping with their sweet little smiles how could I say no?

My first task was to go on the internet and check out what tents are available, and I came across a website called Simply Hike. They have a particular range of tents by Coleman who produce quality camping equipment.

Of course camping in the UK means the chances of rain even in the middle of the summer is pretty high, so you are going need a quality coat. As such I won’t be forgetting to take my Jack Wolfskin coat with me should the weather take a turn for the worse, which, let’s be honest is highly likely.

This summer we are going to be doing something very different for short breaks and long weekends. Here in Wales we live quite near to some beautiful coast lines and only about a two hour drive from Pembrokeshire. We are also very close to the Gower peninsula which is home to some of the best beaches in Europe. Maybe we can teach my six year old twins to surf while we are camping near the coast.

This will be a first for me camping, and actually I’m quite excited about it, but of course it is all about having the perfect tent and all the camping essentials to make it a perfect break away from the pressures of everyday life. It will also be the perfect time for some exciting family time.

Have you been camping? I would love to hear of your experiences.

We take the troops camping for a week every summer, admittedly in ready-erected tents with some basic cooking facilities and blow-up mattresses, but it’s the highlight of the kids’ year (and ours if I’m honest!) – a week away from home, technology and the trappings of modern life – it allows them much-needed down time and an element of complete freedom as they can pretty much roam free for a week without us having to worry about where they are….. it may be back to basics, but it’s a great reminder of the important things in life and just how much fun you can have in the great outdoors! Enjoy!!!
