Painting the Exterior of My House this Spring

January 21, 2017

Springtime is the time of the year when everybody starts getting outdoors on a more regular basis, and they start thinking about doing all those exterior jobs that need doing around the home.

A big job that I will be undertaking this springtime is to paint the exterior walls of my home. It’s all starting to look a bit dirty and faded and of course painting the walls helps to protect the exterior surface for years to come.

Before painting you must make sure that the surfaces are clean and free of any loose old paint. You should also fill any cracks that have appeared with a flexible filler. Once all the preparation is done, it’s time to start painting.

One of the best reasons to wait until springtime is that the temperatures are higher in general, allowing the paint to dry fully during the day. Otherwise, when the temperatures drop during the night moisture can get into the paint and will leave streaks in the paint.

One thing that I will always recommend is to get the right tools for the the job and there is a great website that can supply all you need. If you pop along to Engelbert Strauss’s website they have a wide and comprehensive selection of  paint brushes. They also specialise in all DIY projects, house renovation, gardening etc, and in addition to brushes, Engelbert Strauss offer a wide range of personal protection, masking tapes and other tools needed for painting. Here you can find all products for painting.

I also decided to treat myself to some new overalls and they have a fantastic range, which can be found here. One particular set I thought were great has pockets, perfect for keeping at hand all the tools you will need to do the job.

When painting the exterior of a property it’s very important that you seal the walls with a sealer and then apply two coats of masonary paint. The first  coat I always apply with a brush. If the walls are a rough finish a brush is perfect to get into the awkward spots so the area is fully covered and then the second coat is applied by a roller. This all gives a sound finish to withstand all weathers. The brand of paint that I always use is Dulux paint.

Once it’s finished the overall look will be bright and cheerful and give 100% protection.
