Saving the environment one step at a time

In my job as a painter, decorator and all round handy man, I’m often asked to take on a variety of different jobs. Thankfully the majority of my outdoor jobs, can get done in the summer, leaving with me some smaller jobs that can be done indoors.

It’s not that I don’t like working outdoors, but when it’s bitterly cold and I’m trying to clean someone’s gutters out it can be pretty tough going.

One of the perks of doing my job is that over the years that I’ve learnt how to be efficient, whilst also being kind to the environment.

Jobs such as cleaning drives and patios can use up a lot of water, and I’m very aware of how much of this water is going to waste.

As such I’ve come up with a number of different ways to save water. Instead of using a hose pipe to clean a patio, I tend to dry brush the area first and then put water into a bucket. By doing this, I can then dip my brush into the water and clean the drive that way.

I find that by using the hosepipe, a lot of water goes to waste. I’m not saying that you need to ditch the hose pipe altogether though. After all a hosepipe comes in very handy when I’m trying to fill up our twin girls gigantic, inflatable swimming pool in the summer! I even have Stainless Steel Fittings for my hosepipes in varying sizes! Of course saving water is great for the environment, but there are lots of other things you can do too. By using less energy you can reduce the amount of toxic fumes released by power plants which in turn helps to conserve the earth’s natural resources.
