Drinking and Driving over the Festive Season

December 17, 2015

With the festive season in full swing it can be easy to get carried away. We all want to have a good time, but it’s important to be safe too. That also means ensuring that those around you are safe too.

The opportunity to write this post landed in my inbox with pretty good timing to be honest. Last weekend a drunk driver sped down the road that I live on and crashed into a wall. Thankfully it happened in the early hours so no-one was around and no-one was hurt, but it could have been so different. It could have been a lot worse. I don’t think for one moment that the person driving that car woke up that morning with the intention of driving drunk, but they did and they’ll need to live with that and deal with the consequences.

The Co-Op insurance is running a really important Christmas campaign that is raising awareness of drinking and driving over the festive season. Their Designated Driver Finder helps you to decide which member of your party will be the designated driver.

Simply click ‘go, enter the names of up to five people, click continue and then pull the lever to spin the wheel and find out who will be the designated driver.

Once the designated driver has been decided, click the ‘IOU’ button and you’ll find out what the members of your party ‘owe’ the designated driver as a thank you. When I did this it came up with a takeaway!

Although it’s a bit of fun to play, the message behind it is a seriously important one. If you’re out with friends and family please make them all aware of the dangers of drinking and driving. Choose a designated driver, be sensible and be safe.
