Your naturally green fingers have been working overtime throughout the spring to get your garden in tip top shape ready for the summer. Your vegetable patch is looking good and your beds and borders are second to none.

Mend Fences

Whatever you have that acts as a boundary around your garden, wall or fence, spend some time walking around and testing it out for strength. Look for any areas that may have been used as access points either because of holes or weaker areas or where tunneling may have occurred.

Put your DIY skills to good use repairing and shoring up these areas, or ask your neighbour to help with the costs of repairs. Some dog breeds, such as Beagles, are notoriously good diggers so if you live next door to one of these make sure your repair work is as sturdy as possible.

Natural Defences

Consider covering your crops with bell covers or installing fencing around your vegetable patch. You might even think about mildly electrifying this fence to act as a deterrent against all kind of unwanted visitors.

You can also pick up sonic sound blasters which are said to upset cats in close proximity to them, so if you’ve not got your own pets this might be an option for you. One sure fire way to deter your feline friends is with a motion triggered water spray that will target the cat with a quick burst, long enough to deter them but short enough not to cause any harm.

Artificial Options

If maintaining your lawn is becoming a chore and you find it’s often being dug up by foxes and so on, then you might want to consider giving up the fight and switching to a non real version. Fake or artificial grass is no longer the spiky painful stuff of football pitches but has been developed into a much softer, much more realistic product.
