I Think I’m Beginning To Enjoy Not Working

January 25, 2018

It has been about two and a half weeks since I last worked properly due to the health scare that I had which I have written about previously.

It’s been quite a stressful time because over the last two weeks, I have done no work.

My main activity of the day has been the school run. Boredom and feeling a bit brain dead would be an understatement!

I had a doctors appointment last week, and was hoping the doctor would say it would be ok for me to return to work, but sadly not at the moment.

Unfortunately because of the health condition my body has now got, which in my case is high blood pressure, I have to take medication. This is the difficult time because getting the dose correct takes time so that my blood pressure levels out, and I can go back to normal living.

Since starting the medication, which I’m now on for the rest of life, which I have to admit was the one main reason I didn’t get this sorted years ago, it has had some interesting side effects which of course a lot of medication can do. Couple this with my body adjusting to a lower more acceptable level I have experienced a few moments.

Feeling tired and to the point of exhaustion, this usually happens around 2pm and quite simply I cannot keep my eyes open and I need a power nap to keep going for the rest of the day.

A numbness and tingling feeling in my limbs, but mostly in my legs, especially when I lie down in bed to go to sleep.

Apparently this is caused by swelling in the ankles, which if I’m honest look exactly the same to me, but the doctor said there was some fluid around the ankles.

I have felt at times my throat is closing up a bit, it feels like I have a dose of tonsillitis, along with this an element of spit comes up, because the medication can affect your gullet.

I have felt dizzy on quite a few occasions which is the main reason I’m not allowed to work, because with my job as a painter and decorator I’m up and down ladders all the time.

There have been some other minor side effects, but I’m sure all of these side effects will ease as my body gets used to the medication.

It’s been an interesting time while at home. Initially I was actually enjoying not having to go to work, but being the sort of person that has always worked and led a very active life, this soon wore off.

There have been a few things that have kept me busy, namely my blog. Thankfully I have had a number of opportunities to write some sponsored blog posts which helps the day go quicker, and has allowed me to earn some money which is a huge help. Although it has also taught me that I don’t think I’m cut out to be a pro or full time blogger. Mainly because it’s so unpredictable. Ine minute opportunities are arriving daily in your inbox, then nothing for days. Not a very secure situation. I prefer a more secure job, knowing that I will earn with more consistency.

Hopefully I will get the go ahead from the doctors to resume working, for no other reason other than I need to earn some money.

It has taught me one other very important life lesson, health definitely comes before money, because quite simply without health there will be no work and consequently no money. So it’s time to look after myself better.

Have you had to take time off work for a long period due to ill health? I would love to hear.

Just look at this time being for the greater good and get yourself sorted for a long happy life.
I have to admit when I was first diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and put on medication (likely to be for life) I was a little hesitant, but once I realised how much better I felt on the meds I just decided to go with it. Yes I have to have bi-monthly blood tests and there are some potentially nasty side-effects that might crop up but for now I just enjoy the fact I am fit and well (albeit via some pretty strong medication).
