My five year old twin girls have just finished their first year of school, and I have been amazed at how much they have developed and how inquisitive their minds have become. Their curiosity on how things work keeps me on my toes with a constant stream of questions.
Their minds are being stimulated everyday that they attend school. This means of course that whatever they learn one day, is reinforced the following day by their teachers. However with the six weeks holiday now fully in force, the biggest danger is that they forget what they’ve learnt in the last year.
This all got me thinking how could I help reinforce what they’ve learnt and hopefully teach them something new during the holidays.
I recently came across an awesome website called Little House Of Science. It was founded by three ladies who recognised the need for children to learn. After all we are talking about very curious minds.
Children today want to know how things work more than ever before. It could be about stars and planets, or about how plants grow. With this in mind they developed a fun place where kids can learn about science and also complete projects to stimulate their minds.
Little House Of Science’s main principle is to inspire and get children to be enthusiastic to know and learn more. They are hoping that they can create the next generation of scientists. One of the main aims is that children go away knowing a little bit more about the world they live in.
They do workshops for children from aged six months to 11 years old. These are then grouped by age.
Little Discovery: aged 6 – 12 months & 12 – -24 months
Little Discovery is designed as a way to introduce babies to the wonderful world around us children discover though their senses about colours, shapes, textures and so much more. At this age children are very curious and love to learn and all the activities are designed to support this.
Little Maths Rhythm & Shapes: aged 2-3 & 3-4 years old
Mathematical foundation is established in children’s very earliest years. And they develop maths and numbers skills quite naturally. Little maths builds upon this in a fun way to help them understand, because it’s something they are already doing in their lives. This is all done using props, play, music and rhythm.
Big Science: aged 3-4 4-7 and 5-8 years old
All the sessions are age specific and lays the foundations for the child’s cognitive development helping them solve problems process new information and make decisions. Some of the topics covered include.
• Sound
• Electromagnetism
• Brain
• Density
• Bees
• Life Cycle and many more
Big Science Academy: aged 8- 11 years old
Big Science classes is the next move up and these classes expand upon everything they have learnt from the classes when they were younger. This is designed specifically for children aged 8-11 years old.
Little House Of Science is a comprehensive system of classes from babies though to 11 years old, and in particular classes for toddlers. Check it out I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

This looks fantastic, will definitely check it out. Skyler my eldest is also 5, but where we live he starts school a year later than the Uk. He goes into his first year this September, although I do try and do things at home with him (although very relaxed!). He has such a thirst for knowledge though. I can’t for the life of me get him interested in writing, but facts he just loves. He actually knows way more about animals and nature than me and my husband put together!
