Power struggles with three old twins
Power struggles with our three and a half year old twins have without question moved up a level since they started nursery and gained a tiny bit of independence from mummy and daddy. This has changed their behaviour.
We had the twins from heaven turn into toddler nightmares overnight! All of a sudden everything is an issue.
M was refusing to feed herself so one of us had to feed her. Why would you stop doing this? I suppose this is the joy of toddlers! We decided to hit it head on and basically stopped feeding her at mealtimes. We’d put her food in front of her and amazingly she must have been hungry because she started feeding herself again!
The girls have started to play more with each other, but that also means they argue more too! They’re starting to impose there own personalities on each other.
R simply won’t wear any clothes that we pick out for her. We’ll suggest she has to wear what she wants, the only time she can’t is for nursery when she has to wear her uniform. Thank goodness she doesn’t get a choice when it comes to that!
Sometimes you ask them and ask them to sit down for lunch or tea and 15 minutes later we’re still waiting!
If I turn the television over from CBeebies to something else, all hell is let loose! It has come to the point where that during the day that’s the only thing on the TV!
The girls are nearly four years old and they are definitely trying to impose their characters and personalities on us all.
So my question to myself is this. Do I have huge power struggles over everything or do I pick my battles or do I just go with the flow?
The truth is I don’t know. It’s one of the joys or pitfalls of parenthood. I think I actually just make it up as I go along and I have learnt that I can’t win against three and half year old twins! It is after all two against one!

The only bit of parenting advice I have ever given is choose your battles. Decide what is really important to say no to and go with the flow on everything else otherwise you loose the will, they stop listening and you drive yourself crazy with the sound of your own voice. I've tried to do this with my 4 but it isn't always easy #effitfriday

I completely agree with Mummy Fever – pick your battles! Putting shoes on? Essential? Wearing clothes that I deem matching? Nah he can win on that one!

I would say the same about picking your battles. It is a very good advice. My daughter also has phases where she doesn't want to feed on her own or won't wear at all anything that I choose and it is a nightmare. But I guess sometimes is better to just go with the flow. Thanks for linking up with me at #KCACOLS. I hope to see you again next Sunday! 🙂 x

Hi, as a Dad of 2 girls also, I'm sure that whatever they get up to you are very proud of them! I can't imagine what it must be like to try to cope with 2 going through this at the same time as it was difficult to deal with one (we still have it all to come again with our youngest who has just turned one :-/). #KCACOLS
