Putting yourself back together after heartbreak
Since my oldest daughter J had her heart broken just a few days before Christmas it’s been a long journey of rebuilding her life. A very difficult task after being in a relationship for over two years, a relationship that you felt had a long term feel about it, but unfortunately it was not to be.
During the early days after the break up, the emotional rollercoaster she was riding was plain to see for everybody, but also there were other things that I noticed that maybe only a parent would see.
During the latter stages of the relationship it was obvious to me that she was not entirely happy and had a low esteem, so maybe the break up was a blessing, but she didn’t know that just yet.
After Christmas and new year had finished and her time became less occupied the reality of the situation started to dawn upon her. During the time in the relationship, like a lot of people, friends had disappeared and she felt very alone and I had her on the phone many times crying not knowing what to do. To be very honest I was harsh and said it as I saw it and ultimately I saw no future in her getting back with him, but the decision would always be hers to make.
I know that she would have gone through many sleepless nights asking herself the same questions. Do I still love him? Have I made the right decision? Do I want to get back with him? Numerous questions that kept popping up in her head that would stop her sleeping. Of course I can give my voice of experience and advice because I lived a little bit to gain that experience, but the truth is she had to experience it herself to discover the truth about what she wants.
Her ex boyfriend in fairness tried everything to win her back and there is no doubt that she came very close a few times. Thankfully she would ring me to talk it through and as always I said it as I saw it. Harsh I know, but there was no point in beating around the bush with her.
She works for a large company and that gave her many opportunities to socialise and she even booked a holiday to Ibiza with two friends and she went to the rugby see Wales play Scotland which was something she always wanted to do.
Since the break-up her life has gradually got better and her self esteem is back. She’s happy and full of life which of course is how I want to see my daughter.
She has been out on a few dates and of course nothing happened, but in the last couple of weeks she has met somebody who has definitly turned her head and it’s obvious for me that she likes him a lot. It’s still very early days and I think my daughter understandably is a little wary and is not jumping in with both feet.
From a dads point of view it’s just fantastic to see a smile on her face and her zest for life back.

Aw bless her. It's tough for anyone after a long term relationship whatever age. It is definitely a roller coaster of emotions and without some experience in life it can be a tricky ship to sail. Bonus is that she's young, good looking and has sensible people like you guys to help her along the way. Hope the new relationship works out for her

very few people are fortunate enough to meet the right person without having to go through this a few times. Good to hear that it seems like she is bouncing back OK
