October 10, 2019

Remodelling your home can appear to be intimidating at first glance. Who doesn’t watch home improvement shows or flip through a magazine and then look around their house and notice small things that could be fixed or altered? In this day and age there is a wealth of helpful resources and information on the internet for do-it-yourselfers of every budget. You can save a ton of money by doing simple projects and home improvement jobs yourself instead of hiring pricey professionals. Here are the top home improvement jobs that are affordable, easy and doable for a person of any skill level.

1. Flooring. Flooring is a major selling point in a house, so having floors in your home that are dingy, old and dull can actually decrease your homes value and ability to sell. Home improvement stores sell easy to install flooring in several different designs and styles such as wood planks or tiles. They have improvement in quality substantially over the years and many designs look just as good as the real thing. Saving you thousands of dollars without compromising on style.

2. Paint. A coat of paint can go a long way in a home. Painting the walls in pale and neutral colors can open up your living space and alter how it feels. Colors in a home that are too bright and too bold can be too overwhelming to the eye and cause the space to appear cramped and chaotic. Choose subtle colors to make your home look more elegant.

3. Light fixtures. Light fixtures can make all the difference in a home. They are a major component of the “look” of your home. If the light fixtures in your home are the original ones, they might appear dated and ill-suited for the style of the home. Choose lighting fixtures that add the light to your rooms and fit the aesthetic of your home. If you are planning on changing your light fittings and are not sure how to I wouldn’t recommend doing it yourself. It would be a lot safer to hire a qualified electrician to come and complete the job for you.

Although many DIY jobs can be undertaken by yourself it is always important to know when to call in the experts especially when safety is of a paramount importance.

I would love to hear what DIY you take on yourself and the ones where you get the expert in to do the job, in the comments below.
