What Mother’s Day means to me

March 14, 2015

There are two mothers in my life. One is my wife who is mum to R and M. The other is my mum.

Mother’s Day is a special day where we should remember that special person in the world – your mum.

I am not saying everybody has a perfect relationship with their mum, but I have always been very close to mine.

My mum is ageing now and I have started to realise that every Mother’s Day is a bonus for me because I really don’t know how long she will be here for. The reality is that when she’s gone it’s going to leave a big hole in my life. I have considered myself very lucky to have such a devoted mum who I know would help me out in any way she could and do anything within her power for me.

How do you put into words how important a mum is/?

Well in my case my mum has always been there for me. Regardless of all the ups and downs that U’ve had in life, my mum has never judged me. She’s always just supported me as only a mum can do. She says the right thing at the right time. Mums just know! So just want to say that I love you mum and thank you for all you have done for me. I hope you are here for many more mothers days.

The other mum in my life is my wife who is mummy to our beautiful daughters R and M.
I know it’s a very bittersweet day for my wife because she lost her mum over 10 years ago so it must be a very difficult day not celebrating Mother’s Day with her mum while enjoying the day with R and M. I’m sure that during the day she drifts away to be with her mum just for a moment and that I totally understand.
I don’t think I have fully appreciated how difficult certain events and days are for my wife until this week.

I was out buying some gifts for my wife from the girls and I thought I am so lucky to have my mum in my life for so long because it’s so easy to take her for granted and I should never moan if she does annoy me a little bit because she won’t be around forever.

So my wonderful wife I hope you enjoy Mother’s Day with our beautiful girls who totally adore you because you are the most fantastic wonderful and beautiful mummy to R and M that they could ever wish for.

You were born to be a mummy and I only have to watch you with the girls to see how natural it is for you to be a mummy.

We all love so very much xxxx

You can tell how much you love both your mum and your wife through all of your posts Nige. And rightly so! Lovely words and, yes, there is a huge void when we lose our parents. Sadly, my mum passed away on my daughters 2nd birthday. We always have a lovely gathering here and it is always a happy time as is Mothers Day when the sisters and nieces always get together. My daughter is 11 now and still none the wiser. As long as everyone that is important knows they are loved, we are doing the right thing. #tweensteensbeyond

This is a truly lovely post Nige and you write beautifully about your wife and your mum. Both are obviously fantastic mothers and I’m so glad you appreciate them. Thanks so much for sharing with us at #TweensTeensBeyond

Nigel what a lovely, heartfelt post. A mother’s love is truly special. My mother was diagnosed with cancer 10 years ago and given only 6 months to live. Against all the odds she survived but at that time I was so not ready to lose her and of course I am still not and each mother’s day I thank our lucky stars she is still here to celebrate another year. Thank you for sharing your story. #TweensTeensBeyond
