Why I think the sibling relationship is the strongest

April 25, 2016

In life we form many relationships, but we are born into just a few. One obviously is the parent/child relationship and the other is the sibling relationship which is not always perfect I admit. The sibling relationship can have those moments of estrangement, but also death, divorce or general lifestyle changes which can make the sibling relationship stronger which I have seen on many occasions.

The sibling relationship in my opinion is the strongest that we will ever encounter in our lives, but the question is why?
I think the answer is quite simple. You are from the same gene pool, you grow up together and although you have your own mind, character and personality, you so often have the same values in life because they were taught to you both from early age.

When you are in a relationship with a wife, husband or partner etc. This is a formed relationship. You fall in love and decide between you that you want to be together, but as we know people can change and sometimes things don’t work out.
Friends can come and go in your life for a variety of reasons, moving away or just simply moving on. It’s a very rare occurrence to have a friend for life.

In my own children I have seen them have the most terrible rows and they say that’s it they are not bothering with each other again and then one of them has a problem relationship, break-up or just simply are feeling down about life and who’s there when they need them? Yes! Their brother or sister, or both to support and listen. Although I have always found it interesting why siblings can talk to their brothers and sisters in an appalling manner and think it is acceptable when in my humble opinion it’s not acceptable. You wouldn’t say horrible things to other people, so why do you to your siblings?
It’s really incredible how horrible sisters and brothers can be to each other. Ok, it might take some time sometimes to make up, but it’s always forgiven and forgotten. There is no doubt that if if that was anybody else you would just dismiss them out of your lives and not get involved. Siblings – not a chance! They’ll always be make up.
Don’t get me wrong I’m sure there are lots of siblings that don’t get on, but generally speaking when you really need someone, your sibling will be there for you.

Watching my four year old twins is amazing and I’m sure that as they grow older they will remember these times where a sibling relationship was forged so strong it will never be broken.

So my view is really simple siblings have a lifelong guaranteed relationship, if of course they want it, that no other person can break-up. It’s born not formed.

My aunties are identical twins. In their 50s they still live together, (one has a boyfriend who stays over at weekends), they holiday together, have the same hobbies & interests. They had totally different careers but apart from that they do everything together. They have the most fun & active life of anyone I know, plus there is always someone keen to do things with you. 🙂 My two, (not twins), fight loads but equally, they are so so close. It's lovely to see. I can imagine the arguments raging as they get older though! 😊 Pink Pear Bear

My girls drive each other mad, yet they just can't keep away from one another! I wasn't great friends with my sister while I was growing up, so it's comforting for me to know my two will always have each other (found you on #BrilliantBlogPosts).
