Worry about a teenage holiday to Ibiza
This summer my 17 year old daughter is taking her A’Levels. When they’re finished she is going on holiday with her friends from school to Ibiza.
The feeling of dread I have is incredible. Why I ask myself this is because she is just a month short of 18, but you hear all these nightmare stories of bad things happening so I only hope she is sensible. I don’t think she is that street wise. Maybe she is in her own world where we live, but it’s a different story in Ibiza.
I have given her advice although it is unlikely to be listened to as her usual response is that she is nearly 18 so what do I know! My advise to her is to please look after your drinks. Don’t let them get messed with, don’t lose your friends, stay together and look out for each other. Don’t get totally drunk, but have a good time.
As a parent of five children of varying ages there always seems to be something to worry about, but my 17 year old daughter going to Ibiza is the most worrying so far.
I know they have to grow up, its just that it’s sometimes not a nice world and it has some very nasty people out there.
So be careful enjoy yourself and get home safely.
Love you dad x

OMG Nige I would be scared stiff (not helping am I) you hear about, read and see so much from holiday islands that it is frightening to think your kids want to be part of it. But I'm sure all we really see are the bad and all the good that happens is ignored and probably out weighs the bad by a long way, so I'm sure she will be fine 🙂
Thanks for linking up with #dadpostoftheweek

My girls are so young that I'm not at that stage but knowing how I was as a young man, I am really dreading this when the time comes. I think you have the right attitude. All we can do is hope we have taught them to make good choices.

I am so far off this stage but I can just about remember being 17/18 and how grown up I felt. I think all you can do is hope that you've done all you can in all the years leading up to now to instill the values/behaviour whatever you want to call it that means your daughter will make the right choices and keep her and her pals safe. As a dad of a boy I can only imagine how much more protective and worried Id feel about a daughter. But there comes a point where I guess you just have to let go and trust them. 🙂

I'd be terrified! I was your daughter. And I was sensible but it didn't stop me having some whacky tales that when I look back I think oh I shouldn't have done that, that was stupid.
The big thing is the drinks, remind her about how easy it is to be spiked and potentially even look at some anti spiking methods, I read a great blog post about test sticks you could get cheaply over on Messed Up Mum Blog (I think!!)xxx
Ps my dad told me if I was on the telly for doing anything he would make me do a public apology in the paper – I was 18 when club reps was being filmed…..
