[AD] Giving Your Home A Facelift With New Carpets

Once you have lived in your home for a few years it will start to get shabby and quite honestly a bit too well lived in. This especially applies if you have small children which is the case for us. As parents of seven year old twin girls, it’s particularly hard to get any work done in the house because for the last seven years we having been running around after our twin girls.

They are older now and that means we can start to get DIY jobs done around the home more easily as they either are playing together or just occupying themselves. Without mum and dad having to be involved all the time.

After seven years I have started to notice that many walls were in desperate need of painting where little hands had left their mark or worse still where they decided to use crayons on the walls. So I have decided to re-decorate and will start at one end of the house which will involve decorating every room in the house to get them back to tip-top condition.

I have noticed after decorating just one of the bedrooms that something was looking very shabby and that’s the carpet. The more I looked around our home I realised how nearly every room had a different carpet in it. This was a legacy from the previous owners. They simply had a completely different carpet in every room and our lounge carpet was particularly awful, but when we moved in and the girls were little it seemed a good idea to leave the carpets as we knew that food and drinks would be spilled everywhere, so it was a job we decided to put off until the girls were older which of course they are now.

What I really want is to have a carpet that is the same throughout the house so each room flows into the next one naturally and I want a neutral colour that will go with any decoration we decide upon.

In the girls bedrooms I have decided to have carpets that although will be in keeping with the rest of the house, they will be a little different. This will make the girls bedrooms individual and that will hopefully suit their different personalities and characters, and allow them to decide on the colour of the carpet they would like.

For me there is nothing more inviting when you arrive home on a cold winters night than the feel of stepping onto a soft new carpet. It always makes me think, yes I’m home! Or when you wake up in the morning and you get out of bed, the feel of a soft carpet under your toes is always a lovely feeling.

My plan over the winter months is to re-decorate every room in our home in preparation for new carpets to be fitted throughout and hopefully there will be no spilt drinks or food dropped on our new carpets.
