Being More Energy Conscious In My Home #ad

When you live in a family home that has five children roaming around without any thought about how the bills are paid, it seems that whatever room I go in the lights are always on, or the television is left on without, yes you guessed it, anybody watching it.

So when I was approached by British Gas to team up with them and try to make our home more energy conscious, I instantly thought yes that sounds like something I would love to get involved with and it got me thinking how I initially could become more energy conscious and hopefully pass on some good habits to the rest of my family.

One of the first things that I thought was actually put notes on light switches that say turn off as you are leaving the room, and a reminder to switch off televisions or radios as you leave say a bedroom etc. The times I have gone into a bedroom and found a television on and nobody in sight watching it, well I have lost count to say the least!

Hopefully the idea of the reminders will make us naturally turn off appliances etc and then we will become a more energy conscious family.

British Gas have also come up with a fantastic game called the Smart Meter Maze Game. The idea of the game is actually quite clever. There are 5 levels, or in other words 5 different rooms you enter. You have to switch off as many energy draining appliances and lightbulbs as you can. Sounds easy yes?  Well while you are switching them off there are teenagers running around switching them back on. Now that sounds familiar doesn’t it! Also you can score points by temporarily freezing the teenagers and also by collecting appliances can score you points.

The Smart Meter Maze game is very clever and certainly gives a great insight into how we really can make energy savings in the home.

My score in the Smart Meter Maze Game, well the first attempt I have to admit was not brilliant, but eventually I got the hang of it and managed to score 6,000, not bad for a beginner? I highly recommend you to try out the Smart Meter Maze Game. Our world today is so technology based and although that’s not a bad thing, because it certainly makes life easier, we must be aware of the environment and it’s vitally important to find solutions to protect the earth for future generations. Which is where companies such as Futurenergy are playing an important part in clean technology and renewable energy. This type of energy is now transferring to the home market with it becoming more common to have a domestic wind turbine installed, which can be used to for battery charging or water or space heating, this will of course, all make a major contribution to the protection and survival of our planet and make it a better place for our children.

We may like to think there is a never ending supply of energy, but the truth is there isn’t, and we should be saving the energy we have and that can start in the home with all of us adopting an energy conscious lifestyle. Such an important footstep in protecting our children’s future.
