Four signs that the pipes in your home may need replacing

It’s very easy to just take the water pipes in your home for granted. Most people just assume that they will always work as they should. But, water pipes are just the same as most things in the home; they can wear out over time. Once this happens, it’s important that the pipes are repaired or replaced. If you do not have this work carried out you could end up with a serious burst to deal with, or the quality of your water supply could be adversely affected.

But, how can you tell if the pipes in your home need to be replaced? The most important thing to say is that you need to check the pipes on a regular basis. Here are the signs that you need to look out for.

There is evidence of moisture

If you see any moisture on the pipes themselves, this could be a sign of a leak. Once pipes start to leak, it’s possible that they need to be replaced. Another sign of moisture is the presence of mold or mildew in the area around a pipe. You should always have a potential leak investigated as soon as possible, as it will only worsen if you simply ignore it.

The pipes are dimpled or the surface is flaking

If you look closely at the surface of the water pipes in your home, you may be able to see several dimples in the metal. This is a sign that you need to contact a Sydney plumber, to have the pipes replaced. This is also the case if the surface of the metal is flaking.

The water coming from the tap is discoloured

When you turn on the tap, you expect the water that comes out to have a clear appearance. Sometimes, the water company carries out work which causes the water to have a cloudy appearance on a temporary basis. This situation does not normally continue for long. However, if the water which comes from the tap is reddish brown in appearance, this is a sign that there is rust in the pipes; suggesting that they need to be replaced.

There are stains on the wall or ceiling

If you are walking around your home, and you notice that there are stains on the walls or ceilings, this could be a sign that there is a leaky pipe which you do not know about. The water from the leak causes the stains to appear. This may be the first sign of a leak, if the pipe is in an area which is hidden away, and difficult to access. You need to have the problem checked by a professional plumber, as soon as possible.
