Home Improvements That Are Trending in 2017

July 13, 2017

Every year there are trends that are must haves in every home and our home is no different, so I thought I would list some home improvement trends I have noticed this year so far. Home improvement is a really good way to increase the value of your home, and also give your home your very own personal touch.

1. Sofa’s:  This year sofa’s are definitely more unobtrusive, so there has been a move towards corner sofa’s, although the furniture is less visible and melts away in the background, it still has style, and it can be adapted to any area.

2. Cork: Cork is making a comeback from the 1970’s which doesn’t really surprise me. It is eco-friendly which of course is a very good for our environment. This year will see a rise in cork homeware and accessories made from and incorporating this very unestimated material cork.

3. Kitchen: looking to update your kitchen with new kitchen unit doors and worktops? The trend of 2017 is without a doubt composite worktops. These offer a touch of class to your kitchen and come in a marble or stone effect and have a clean cut finish, and are very durable. They can of course be used to give your bathroom a lift. A very popular home improvement trend for 2017.

4. Walls: There has been a move and trend towards a more rustic look especially on the walls. It may not be for everybody, but exposed brickwork is very stylish and definitely the ‘in look’ for 2017. Of course it saves time and money on painting.

5. Cooking Appliances: Technology has now become a big part of our lives and the use of smart phones in controlling many things in our home has certainly become the must have item. You can now have your tea ready by turning the oven on and cooking your tea. Or turn your slow cooker on from the comfort of the office via your smart phone.

6. Copper: 2017 is the year of copper. It is definitely the metal of choice, so in your kitchen get those copper pans and pots on display and a very trendy look this year is a copper light fitting.

7. Gravel Landscaping: Gravel landscaping is now very much in for 2017. Gravel is replacing patios, lawns and driveways. What makes it special, is it helps prevent erosion and you have to replace it, and it has a fantastic natural feel with limited or no maintenance. Perfect for any driveway.

8. Energy Trends: With the cost of everything going up and wages not keeping up, it’s time to make some upgrades to save money on your energy bills. A few ideas that will help reduce your bills are thermal insulation, new windows new doors and a high-efficiency HVAC. These may not be particularly noticeable, but they will help your energy bills and add value to your home.

So there you are, these are some of the home improvement trends that are happening in 2017.

I would love to know if you have any home improvements planned for 2017. Do you follow trends or just do what you want?
