If I hadn’t got married twice and fathered five children, I would probably be driving a Bentley, living the dream and I’d have pots of money in the bank.
Would I change if I could turn back time?
That’s a tough question!
Material things in life that can make you happy or love that has no conditions or boundaries. Which one would I choose?
The truth is, it’s a no brainer. I would have picked the Bentley! No, no, I’m only joking!
I would always pick the love of five children and a beautiful, stunning wife, but why you may ask yourself? It’s simple really.
Over the last 20 years our society has without a doubt become a throw away society. We no longer repair anything if it’s broken it goes in the bin and we go off to the supermarket to buy another one. It’s sad really and also possibly contributing to messing up the environment.
One thing that is most definitely not throw away is the love of family, and in particular children. The day your children are born you have a choice to love them unconditionally and forever, or be a distant parent that believes that it is a duty to raise your children, not a pleasure. Believe me I know how the latter feels from my own childhood.
Being lucky enough to be a dad of five children has taught me things about myself that money never could have.
I went from being a hot tempered selfish twenty something to a being patient and calm, well most of time, haha! I’m not a perfect human being that discovered the true meaning of love and only children can show you this.
Once you become a mum or dad you will walk on water, broken glass and hot ashes to meet the needs of your children. You will defend them even when you know they are wrong in public, because you can always tell them afterwards how wrong they were, but that can be done privately.
Of course there is another kind of love that you share for all or some of your adult life. A partner that you can share your life with. I’m fortunate enough to have shared that with the love of my life, my wife, Emily. For when I’m with her anything is possible. The world has no barriers.
So would I have been tempted to have the material things in life? Not a chance! I wouldn’t want to miss out on all that love that children and your soul mate can bless you with.
Every time, family is the winner for me. Love has no equal, well money certainly cannot replace it. It’s the best thing that could have ever happened to me.
