The first consideration should be ‘kerb appeal’. When you drive up to your home, are you happy with the way it looks from the outside? First appearances are crucial to anyone visiting your home.

You want a potential buyer to be eager to come inside and see what other things you have done to make the house appealing. A good entrance, including stylish gates and a clean and flat driveway will go a long way.

Of course, when it comes to first impressions it’s also important to have the driveway, front door and gardens looking completely spick and span. This can easily be achieved through basic maintenance. 

Never Neglect the Kitchen

Many believe that the heart of the home is the kitchen, and people can be most discerning about looks and functionality of this area. If you’re doing this, try and buy the best quality products you can afford. Potential buyers will notice this. This, in turn, proves how much you care about your home. It suggests that you built a happy life in this house – so they could too.

Aside from attracting buyers or even compliments from friends and visitors, what’s better than having your bathroom as a haven for yourself? Selling a home can be a long process, and you still need to live there while it’s unfolding. Allow yourself a little luxury during a testing time.

External Considerations

If you really want to add that extra ‘wow’ factor, why not consider an outside entertainment area? Non-slip decking, and perhaps a built in BBQ or pizza oven, can dazzle visitors. 

Garden furniture can make a lot of difference to the appearance of your patio area. Even in winter months, your outside area should be decluttered and kept looking attractive to anyone that visits, so they can dream of summer months ‘al fresco’.

Another great way to increase the value of your home is to maximise any garage space. By adding a nice roller door, you can easily convert this type of space into anything you might want it to be.  

More and more families use garages as an additional living room or a home gym. Be creative! Ensure your garage area is well lit with adequate power, so visitors can see that it is part of your property in a big way.

The key thing to remember when adding value to your home is not to over-personalise it – especially if you’re looking to sell. Think ‘quality’ combined with ‘simplicity’ and you really can’t go wrong.

Never forget the lighting for your home – this can be an intrinsic part of making the best value for your property. Correct lighting to create ambience and warmth where needed, goes a long way to the ‘wow’ factor.
