Keeping Your Home Warm This Winter

We are now well and truly heading into the depths of winter and the temperatures are beginning to fall dramatically. I always know when the colder weather is upon us because when you go out early in the morning there’s always a layer of ice on the windscreen of the car, and you have to spend 30 minutes defrosting it! Keeping warm quickly becomes a priority and nowhere else is this need more pronounced than in the home. With this in mind, I have put together a selection of the most effective techniques for keeping your home warm.

1. Insulation

If you live in an older house, which is something that my home is, chances are you have cavity walls. A good way to make sure the heat produced by your central heating stays in the home is to have wall insulation installed. Nowadays this can be easily done, and quite often there are government grants available to assist with this. The loft space is another place that a lot of heat can be lost so it is important to make sure that it is properly insulated too.

2. Central heating pumps

Another great way of keeping your house warm this winter is by using a central heating pump. This basically is a heat pump that will efficiently send hot water around your home from the boiler to all of your radiators and then back to your boiler. 3. Bleeding your radiators

This is why you should have it annually inspected and serviced by a fully qualified gas and heating engineer. It will always be money well spent to ensure that your home is not only safe, but properly heated too.

6. Keep doors shut

Also, teaching your children to shut doors is a good idea so that heat isn’t unnecessarily lost. If your children are anything like mine, they never shut the door. Pulling the curtains shut at night time is another good way of retaining heat. 

These are just a few suggestions and tips to keep you warm this winter. All of the above strategies are simple yet effective and will keep your home warm during the cold winter months.
