My Mental Health And Counselling
I have on many occasions written about how I have suffered from my mental health issues, and at times how I have reached some very dark places at different stages of my life.
There is no doubt that nowadays I am in a better place than I have ever been in my life. I’m content, and contentment is a vital part of your well being. It has given me peace in my mind, and this has allowed me to not be affected by the issues that have caused some of my mental health problems that I have suffered in the past.
Looking back I have come to the conclusion that some of the issues that have affected my mental health have been caused by my childhood, and all of the problems that surrounded my dysfunctional upbringing by parents that were self obsessed, and quite honestly two of the most selfish people that I have had the misfortune to meet. Sadly I didn’t pick them, I was born into their lives. The choice was taken out of my hands.
As I became an adult, my life was to lurch from one mental health issue to another. There was no doubt that I needed to find help which would be beyond medication.
I, like a lot of people, turned to the internet to see what help was available, and I came across counselling. This is not something that I would have instantly thought of, but by looking into it I realised that I could benefit from talking my problems through. I started counselling and instantly found that by talking though issues my mental health improved, and at times it felt like a huge weight was being lifted from my mind and it made living on a daily basis that much easier. My confidence and self-esteem improved dramatically as my counselling sessions increased. This of course all happened during the early days of the internet.
Of course nowadays there is so much help online and counselling sessions can all be done via a laptop making it easy and more accessible for people to receive help with any mental health issues they may have.
As I have already said I am in such a better place nowadays, but I’m always wary that life has a habit of changing and should I need counselling again I wouldn’t hesitate to get it quickly. Having the avenue of being able to go online for help and counselling just makes life easier and I know that help is always there for me.
Have you received counselling for any mental health issues? I would love to hear.
