Oh Yes! Back To School Today

Well the summer holidays just flew by in a flash. I cannot believe my six year old twin girls will be back in school in just a few days. It is actually scary how quickly the last six weeks have gone by and I have never known the summer holidays to go so quickly.

This was a moment to cherish forever

I could say I have survived the summer holidays, but the truth is I haven’t. I have found the summer holidays to be one of the most enjoyable six weeks of my life.

I’m not entirely sure why it’s been so much fun and easy, but part of the reason has to be my six year old twin girls. They have been amazing. We have had very few tantrums, in fact there have been so few tantrums, I can’t even remember any of them. They have had the odd argument which thankfully did not develop into a serious argument, and generally they have found each other’s company enjoyable and have spent many an hour making up their own games for hours on end.

This summer holidays was different for another reason. We decided to have a holiday abroad in Minorca towards the end of the school holidays. It was very much a last minute decision, but a very good decision as it gave all of us something to look forward to. It strangely seemed to shorten the school holidays, but it was a fab break with lots of laughs

During the summer holidays I have noticed my six year old twin girls changing quite dramatically. They have matured and grown-up so much in the last six weeks, and they really have become the best of friends, long may it last! When they go back to school they will be entering year 2, and it’s really scary because it only seems like yesterday they were starting nursery and now all of sudden they will be the oldest in the infants school playground.

The girls have developed a new found confidence and are becoming very articulate, and are now able to convey exactly how they are feeling, and what they want in a polite manner which is lovely to hear and watch. They are growing so quickly, but it’s lovely to see the respect they have developed for each other and other people.

Possibly the toughest part of the school holidays has been the last two days,. The girls seem to find fault with everything, and arguing with their mum or myself about everything. Still today they go back to school. This means I won’t hear every 20 minutes throughout the day, I’m hungry, or I’m bored. I also won’t be picking up toys every 10 minutes! What is it with kids! They get all their toys out and then leave them and walk away, and get some more toys out, and today when they wake up and ask the same question that they have for the last few weeks. What are we doing today? I can reply with: “Going to school yay!”

So the summer holidays are nearly done, and the girls are definitely ready to go back to school. When you are six years old the desire to learn is immense and school is the greatest place to learn, and I’m sure they are both missing their friends.

Of course now summer holidays are over, Christmas is coming yay! I can’t wait!
