The At Home Sanctuary You Deserve From Your Own Bathroom? It’s Possible

May 8, 2017

Every one of us deserves a little pampering and luxury in our lives. However, we can’t all afford to splurge on a spa day each week to get that much-needed relaxation time. But, that doesn’t mean to say you can’t recreate the atmosphere and feelings you get from a spa in your own bathroom.

The bathroom in any home is one of the most well-used rooms in your property, but it can also add a fair bit of value to your home when you invest some time and money. Which is why I thought it would be the ideal time to share with you some of the ways you can turn your current bathroom into the zen-like spa environment you crave. Whether you take on some of the bigger suggestions or make the small and simple changes, you will be looking forward to that relaxation time every night of the week.

Do you need a new bathroom suite?

Let’s start with one of the biggest jobs and, of course, the most expensive, replacing the bathroom. Not everyone will need to do this, but if your bathroom suite is looking a little dated, or the layout of the room itself is just not working for you, then maybe it is time to improve and upgrade. It’s a big job and often can be a little pricey, but if you hunt around for companies that supply great bathrooms, you may be surprised that it’s more affordable than you realise. It can also add a huge amount of value to your property if you ever come to sell in the future. You might want to consider what you install in your bathroom, for example, you may think about shower baths in different sizes or the vanity unit and sink combination. You may need to consider some space saving ideas as well if you have a small room to work with.

Give the room a lick of paint

One of the easiest ways to refresh a room is to give it a coat of paint. If you are hoping to create a relaxing atmosphere than a trip would be to stick with a toned down colour palette. You won’t want anything too loud and crazy to mess with your aura and zen. Sometimes a nice clean, crisp white would be the ideal choice for a bathroom. But if you do like your colour then maybe sticking with a pastel shade would be an ideal choice.

Consider alternative lighting options

Have you ever noticed that spas seem to be dimly lit? That is because low lighting can help you relax your mind and ease you into a sleepy state, whereas bright lights will keep you awake and your mind working overtime. So it might be worth considering changing your lighting in the bathroom. A simple change would be to add a dimmer switch to your current lighting, giving you the chance to lower the light levels when you want to relax. You could also consider changing coloured bulbs.

Sometimes the simplest of details make the biggest difference

There are some simple things you can invest in that can make your bathroom feel like a sanctuary. One of the first things would be the towels you use. These could be standard bath towels or something a little more luxurious like Egyptian cotton. It’s worth keeping these for special occasions so your relaxation and pampering evenings can feel that little bit more luxurious. You could also invest in candles, they could be scented or not, whatever you prefer. Candles can create the right mood lighting to help you relax. A specific smell will encourage you to relax, a good option to consider would be lavender.

You could also accessorize your bathroom with things you are likely to see in a spa. Perhaps display some of your favorite products on your vanity unit. Or add a few little cacti plants or houseplants for a touch of greenery. A heated towel rail may be a lovely addition to your bathroom to keep your towels and dressing gown toasty warm. On the subject of gowns, why not treat yourself to a new one with a pair of matching slippers. It could help you get into the relaxation mood you crave.

Use phone apps to create a spa-like atmosphere

When you head to the spa, you are most likely greeted with a low toned music in the background. A relaxing vibe to again help you get into the spa spirit. You can definitely recreate this from home by simply downloading an app that is full of music options that can play for different lengths of time.

While on the relaxation subject, taking a bath is the perfect chance to practice some guided meditations. You can also find plenty of apps to download that you can listen to. Whether you are feeling particularly stressed in work, or just want to gain some clarity and guidance on moving forward, there will be a guided meditation to help you do it.

Focus on one key feature of your bathroom

Finally, if you can’t afford to redo the whole bathroom, but can afford to spend a little more than what you would on candles and towels, then maybe focus on one area to make some improvements. One thing to consider would be your vanity and sink unit. Many of these can come with storage to keep all your spa essentials. You might also want to invest in a decent mirror. This will be perfect for when you want to do those at home facials or a bit of pampering with a face mask. After all, who says we can’t recreate the full spa-like experience from our bathrooms. Think of the money you could save.

Other options to consider would be a new shower, choosing something more powerful, fancy taps, or even a new towel rail that combines as your radiator. There are lots of smaller things to consider that could make a real difference to your bathroom experience.

I hope these tips help you create your very own sanctuary from your bathroom.
