The girls first year continues

February 3, 2015

Following on from my last post

We were now moving very quickly to the second six months of the girls lives and things were settling down into a nice routine.

There was unfortunately a few down sides. We lived on a second floor flat which had many disadvantages. Going for a walk was difficult as we had to take the double pushchair down four flights of stairs. Then we’d have to go back upstairs to get the girls which was ok if we were both home, but very difficult on your own.

We also had the neighbours from hell living underneath us. They would constantly slam doors at all hours which was so frustrating and annoying. We’d just get the girls to sleep and then they’d be woken by people who gave no consideration to others.

So I knew we would need to move soon.
The girls were progressing at a good rate. We’d been back to hospital to see their consultant and she was always pleased with their progress.

It would always concern me their weight was not enough, but I guess they were tiny when they were born and my wife and I aren’t big people so they’re probably never going to be super model heights!

Although we were getting a little bit more help it was still limited. I know they are our children and our responsibility but jeez it would have been nice to have had the occasional offer, but we never really got one.

M s silent reflux was still an issue if she ate too quickly or gulped her milk down. It would be straight back up again before you knew it, but we were dealing with it so much better.
We had the odd scare in the first year after. About seven months of age the girls both got a sickness bug and stopped drinking their milk and eating their food. They were vomiting a lot so we went to A&E because it always happens on a weekend and we needed re-assurance. Thankfully we got that. I have never critised the NHS and never will they are brilliant!
The weeks turned into months very quickly and the girls changed and grew so quickly.

As I mentioned where we were living was becoming very difficult so we started looking around for somewhere else to live. My wife wanted to move back to the area where she grew up and about two months before Christmas we found a flat in the said area so it was time to pack and try to get settled before the girls first Christmas.

We had starting packing up everything early in boxes to be ready to go quickly and arranged for a removal man to move us. It was very much up in the air what date it would be and how close it would be to Christmas..
Finally we were given a date one week before Christmas and as usual nobody offered any assistance. No surprise there! Anyways I just got on with it. My wife and the girls went to mums for the day and it all went smoothly and we were in by teatime/ There was lots of sorting out to be done the next day as well as trying to get settled for Christmas.
The plan was to make it as settled as possible for Christmas Day.

Completely agree about the NHS. I know sometimes its hard and frustrating withe the systems but we are so lucky to have a free medical service. Sorry to hear about the neighbours. Glad to hear about the girls progress. Thanks for linking up #bigfatlinky

I completely sympathise with not being able to get out with your buggy easily but Oh my word, 4 flights of stairs! I don’t know how you coped being in a flat with noisey neighbours too, must have been really tough. I’ve got twins too who are 18 months now so I understand the logistics of having to leave them alone and unattended whilst you get one in the car etc..I once got the first all strapped in then came bk for the other and he’d done a huge poo, leaking everywhere!!!! Happy days. Sounds like you made the right decision moving.
