Things To Consider When Buying a New Bed #AD

February 18, 2019

Getting a good, well rested eight hours of sleep is so important in order to feel wide awake enough to deal with the trials and tribulations of daily life. This can be exhausting if you have young children like I do. I’m a dad of five which includes six year old twins. There is no doubt that they have an abundance of endless energy and some days it can be difficult to keep up. That’s why it’s even more important to have a good nights sleep.

Having a good nights sleep is so often down to what your bed is like. That’s why when you’re deciding on buying a new bed it’s important to make sure you do your homework and get the perfect bed to suit you. After all nowadays there is such a large selection of beds to choose from that it can be very puzzling to know what is the perfect bed for you. So here are few things I think are worth taking into account when you start looking for a new bed.

1. What Size Bed

It can be very difficult to decide what size bed do you want. If you are married like myself and have small children, buying just a double or queen bed size might not be the answer. If you have children like ours that like to crawl their way into your bed in the middle of night, I would seriously consider getting yourself a super kingsize bed. This means that there will be plenty of room for everybody to hopefully get a full eight hours of sleep each night.

2. Bedroom Size

The size of your bedroom is of course is very important when deciding on the size of your new bed. There is no point in buying a super kingsize bed if you can’t get into your wardrobe because your bed is in the way. In addition you don’t want to walk into your bedroom and all you can see is a bed and nothing else! It’s important to keep your bedroom a restful looking place with limited clutter.

3. What Type of Bed

Nowadays there is a huge selection of beds on the market. From wooden, metal or the more traditional base with a mattress.

Some of the metal frame beds have an old fashioned feel to them if this suits your decor. Wooden frame beds come in different types of finish from either a retro look to a more simplistic modern look.

Many of the traditional beds with a standard base come with draws for storage which is perfect if you are short on storage areas in your bedroom. It’s a great place to store your bed sheets or perhaps your seasonal clothes. It’s even better for storing your winter clothes in summer as this frees your wardrobe up for your summer clothes.

4. Mattress

Picking a mattress is vital. After all we spend at least eight hours every night in bed and if we want a good nights sleep it’s very important to pick a mattress that suits you. I would always recommend that you go and try out different mattress to see how they feel because you really don’t know whether you want a soft or firm mattress or something that is in the middle.

The selection of mattresses available is huge nowadays so I’m sure with a little bit of work you can find a mattress that suits you.

So those are my four tips for buying a new bed. I’m sure there are many other things that you can do and if you have any further suggestions I would love to hear them in the comments below.

Another thing people might want to think about is whether or not to go for one that has a bit at the bottom that stops your feet hanging over the edge. If you’re 6 foot or over (like me) you’ll forever feel like you’re squished in. It’s often better to get just a head board one. Just a tip I learned!
