Big Impact Changes To Make If You Are Renovating

I’ve been a painter and decorator for over 20 years and have been involved with many renovations of people’s homes, but like a lot of professional trades people I never get around to working on my own home.

When we first moved into our home a number of years ago, money was a bit tight. So we decided what was important to sort out straight away and what we could live with as it was. One area that we decided to leave until a later date was the kitchen. It was after all not too bad and functional, but all these years later it is now in need of renovating. So I have created a list of all the different things that I want to incorporate in our new kitchen.

We decided there was nothing worth saving in the old

kitchen and I wanted a blank canvas to create a family friendly, functional kitchen and dining area. Our kitchen is certainly big enough to achieve this, but we will have to remove a wall to open up the space available to us.

There are number of things that I want to include.

1. I want all the old tiles removed and then all the walls plaster skimmed, although I will be tiling some areas, but I want plain walls painted for a cleaner finish.

2. I will be having the usual white good appliances, washing machine, dishwasher etc, which of course will need plumbing and any pipes that are showing can easily be boxed in with panelling, but also easy to remove if something should go wrong.

3. Lighting is for me is really important and I will be having flush spot lights in the ceiling and adjustable spot lights to light certain areas. I would also like to lighting under all the kitchen units.

4. Skirting is also very important for me to give that perfect finish between floor and wall and nowadays you can get MDF skirting boards in a huge selection of designs and size. Of course one of the advantages of MDF is that it comes primed and ready to paint.

5. Finally I am looking to have a cushioned floor which will add warmth to the area and also make it easy to clean.

Once it’s all finished it will be a perfect area for preparing and eating all our meals creating a perfect family setting where we can eat and catch up on each other’s day.
