The Benefits Of Building Your Own Home
One thing I have always dreamt about is building my own house. There are a number of reasons why.
My profession and job is as a painter and decorator and I have always prided myself on perfection. I have been very fortunate to have worked in some beautiful homes over the years and quite often I have seen rooms and features in different homes that I would love to incorporate in my very own house build.
This is why it has always been my dream to build my own home. Of course there are a number of things that I would need to find first.
Location is paramount to me. If I am going to build my own home the kind of location that would be perfect for me is somewhere where I don’t have people overlooking me, preferably in the country with views from every angle in the home.
In designing my home I have very definite ideas of what I would like to incorporate in my new house build. I would want family areas that are large and spacious, plus a kitchen that is large, but also has a good size dining area within the kitchen because I have five children so it would be perfect for catching up with one another at meal-times to find out what has been going on their lives.
I would also love a lounge that is large so I could have a very large TV and sound system. It’d also be nice to just have a pleasant area to sit as a family and watch our favourite TV shows together.
A very important part is to have five bedrooms and hopefully have en-suites in two of the bedrooms.
My five top tips for building your own home are:
1. Location. It is vital that the place you decide to build your new home has everything you need, and that includes great views and not to far from local shops etc.
2. A good understanding architect that is in tune with your vision so they can fulfill exactly what you are looking for in your new home.
3. A quality builder that can make your dream home come to life, and also is always on hand to discuss anything that maybe you’re not happy about whilst building works are ongoing.
4. It’s vital of course to have construction insurance. You need to find somebody who will give a competitive, but comprehensive cover of insurance during the build and afterwards.
5. Finally it is very important to get the correct planning permission required by your local council before you even start any building.
Of course, if you are looking for more advice, the Self Build Portal is great for this.
So hopefully one day I will get to build my dream home in a location of my choice to live happily with my family.
I would love to hear your thoughts. What is your dream home?
